country and Chiang Mai airport, a center of northern Thailand. While the railway transportation is experiencing a sluggishness of growth, the usage at both airports has greatly grown.
1) Bangkok airport
The following table shows the past history of usage. In 1993, the total international passengers were 12.5 million and domestic passengers 4.1 million. The growth ratios over the previous year were; 12.7 % for the international passengers and 18.7 % for the domestic passengers.

2) Chiang Mai airport
Although the Chiang Mai airport has functions as an international airport, it is primarily a center of domestic air transportation in the northern part of the country.
About 1.39 million domestic passengers and 30 thousand international passengers used this airport in 1993. If compared to the previous year, the domestic passengers showed an increase of 12.0 %, while the international passengers increased by 62.6 %, which was a significant growth. (See following table.)
